Guide for victims

How to check you're really dealing with Tracewright

Tracewright's only website is tracewright.io, and case email comes from intake@tracewright.io. We never ask for your seed phrase, private keys, wallet passwords or exchange logins, we never promise to recover your money, and we are not part of or partnered with the FBI, the IC3 or any government agency. If someone contacts you claiming to be us, don't reply to them: email intake@tracewright.io yourself and we'll tell you whether it was us.

Where does Tracewright operate online?

Our website is tracewright.io. Our email addresses end in @tracewright.io, and case correspondence, including the confirmation you receive after an intake, comes from intake@tracewright.io.

Any other domain is not ours, including lookalikes with extra words, hyphens or a different ending. Type tracewright.io into your browser rather than following a link someone sent you.

What will Tracewright never ask for?

  • Your seed phrase (recovery phrase), private keys or wallet passwords.
  • Your exchange login or two-factor codes.
  • Remote access to your computer or phone. We work from public blockchain data only.
  • A fee to “release”, “unlock” or “verify” recovered funds.
  • Payment by gift card.

We also never promise recovery or give you a date for it. Anyone who does is not us.

Is Tracewright connected to the FBI, the IC3 or the police?

No. Tracewright is a private forensic examiner, not a law firm and not a government agency. The IC3 states that it does not work with any non-law-enforcement entity, such as law firms or crypto services, to recover funds, and that it will never contact you directly for information or money. The FBI has warned specifically about fake law firms and recovery services that claim government partnerships.

Our reports go to the people with legal power to act, your lawyer or law enforcement, and you or your counsel decide who receives them.

What does a genuine Tracewright engagement look like?

  • You start it, through the intake form on tracewright.io or by emailing intake@tracewright.io.
  • The intake review is free. An examiner replies within two business days with a tier, a fixed price, and an honest view of whether a report will help, including telling you when we think it won't.
  • Fixed-fee work is paid half to open the file and half on delivery, and if the first 48 hours of tracing show nothing actionable we stop and refund the balance.
  • Success-fee work starts only after a written agreement that defines “returned funds” precisely.
  • We don't contact the thief or the exchange on your behalf. Your counsel or law enforcement does that, with our report attached.

Someone contacted me claiming to be Tracewright. What should I do?

Don't reply to them, click their links or pay anything. Open your own email, type intake@tracewright.io yourself, and send us a screenshot of the message. We'll confirm whether it came from us.

Then report the impersonation: to the IC3 and ReportFraud.ftc.gov in the US, or Report Fraud in the UK. Our reporting guide explains what to include.
